New here and form south america.
Tryng to learn some of this noble office
Actually I´m looking for some hard glue, for building a bow.
I have read that "Franklin Tite-bond el ll" may work.
As many knows, bows are most of the time bending. So keeping two pieces of wood seems to be hard to achieve.

(I hope to be understood)

Thanks a lot, already

PS if it is possible to mention the glue's compound , so that I can finds it in my country

Estaban,

Let me say welcome to the "Creek." I'm sure you'll enjoy the expertise offered on this site. Can't help you with the bow question. But I'm sure you'll have an answer soon. Good to have some South American representation. Where in South America are you from?

Welcome to the Creek!

I've never built a bow, but this guy has!

http://www.renegadearchery.com/building/bow_building.htm

In one of the pages, he says that he uses epoxy --

You might contact him directly,

I know a guy who builds wooden bows. He laminates several layers of wood together using a urea-formaldehyde glue. Urea-formaldehyde is a two-part glue. That is, you mix two components together, and the glue cures by chemical action between the two components. Urea-formaldehyde is water-proof after it has cured. In the US, brand names include Unibond 800, Urac 185, and DAP's Plastic Resin Glue. Urea-formaldehyde is a chemical descriptions, so that might help you in finding it in your country.

Esteban,

Welcome to Sawmill Creek!

When I was young, I made a bow from wood and epoxy. I used it for years. I tied the wood pieces and epoxy glue to a form until it cured and then used a belt sander to shape it.

Cuando era joven, hice un arco de la madera y de epoxy. La utilicé por años. Até los pedazos de madera y el pegamento de epoxy a una forma hasta que curó y después utilizó una lijadora de la correa para formarla.

That's funny, Esteban. Welcome.Actually, it depends on where you are from, Mark said it correctly. At least if he was speaking Mexican Spanish. The thing is not only do different countries speak Spanish with different accents and pronunciations but they also spell it the way they speak it.

Estaban do Argentinians speak Spanish, Portuguese or both?

Welcome

...I have read that "Franklin Tite-bond el ll" may work....
I believe Franklin Tite-bond II (and 1 and 3) are all PVA - polyvinyl acetate - glues, which will creep, thus are not good for bent laminations and bending.

The suggestions for epoxy or urea formaldehyde are good - I just wanted to add that Tite-bond and most other ordinary white and yellow "carpenter" or "woodworking" glues are not good for this use.

Woodworking and language lessons all in one thread. This forum really is amazingly informative. ;)

I was wondering what type of bow you are planning on making Esteban. This is a project I plan to try some time as well.

I've lived in the US for the majority of my life.

I was "imaging" a Long Bow, First I will try (and practice) with a "self bow", that don´t need glue parts.
Then after that going to try with that long bow, still not sure but, a bow core in cedar.
My point is to analyze how it works changing the shape.

Muchisimas gracias

I was plannin a long bow, with cedar core, but first for practice I will try a self bow (that is in one piece of wood, and don´t need glue).
My poins is to analyze the impact changing the shape.

Keep the "bow" contact
