We have the carcass and drawers of our new kitchen island constructed. I am about to install the drawers. I am curious on how others would place the full extension drawer slides. At the bottom or top of the drawer or somewhere in the middle?

I'm a bottom area placement guy.

I would do below middle.

I prefer them towards the bottom.
I don't think there's any reason to not put them wherever you like.

I normally place them near the bottom.

Preferably below center on deep 8" or deeper drawers , close to center on upper drawers which tend to be 4" ish deep with 6" ish drawer fronts.

Same as Paul Girouard.

The instructions on the KV slides I typically use say to put the centerline (I think) something like 1-1/8" above the bottom. Looks good to me. I have put some on the centerline of the drawer, too. As others said, it's personal preference not technical requirement as far as I can tell.

As Martin said, there's no reason they can't go anywhere you like. I place them so the main part of the slide rests on the face frame. For the slides I use, usually American made K/V 8405, that puts the drawer mount part at 3/4" up (to centerline) from the bottom which allows about 1/8" between the drawer bottom and face frame.

If I remember correctly I read that full extension drawer guides are actually designed to go on to, but we always put them on the bottom...

Just make sure the placement is such that the screws aren't landing on the drawer bottom groove (dado).

I would recommend the center be the same height as the drawer pull to reduce torque on the joints.
