A couple weeks ago I finished this piece for my sister. It's a design that I've been dragging around for a few years but this spring was given the opportunity to build it for her. The sideboard is all solid cherry with ebony and cherry burl accents. It's approximately 56"w X 34"h X 20"d. Dovetails are hand cut and the legs are a tapered bent lamination made up of 16 laminates that taper from +/-1/4" to 5/32" yeilding a leg that tapers from 4" to 1.5".
Please critique as you see fit, I got thick skin!
Cheers,

Beautiful! I really like the legs.....they add so much to what is normally a rectangle box. The drawers and drawer pulls add interest also. It is "just a very nicely done piece"!!

I freakin' love that thing! I am a big fan of exposed joinery, multiple elevations and design elements that draw the eye. Your design has all of that. Beautiful material and workmanship.

I've just got to build something with tapered, bent laminations now. That is just gorgeous! So unusual, so well done.

Thanks for all of your kind words everyone!!! It sure was a fun one to build and it looks great in its new home.

I found out on Friday that it was accepted to the MaineWood 2018 exhibition at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, ME. This is a biennial show that has some impressive jurors that determine the selections. It will run from mid January to mid April. I'm honored to be included in that group and look forward to the opening reception.

Thanks!

Lovely piece. Where the bent laminations cross what type of joint did you use, half lap?
The floating look adds a lot of interest to the eye.

The tapered, bent laminations are fantastic. I can't even see the seams. It just looks like the legs were purposely grown for the curve. I love elegance like this that hides the effort involved.

I also like the front panels.

What a wonderful design and execution. Bold curves, yet stately and elegant.

Everything about your sideboard is beautiful. The wood, design, craftsmanship. Looking at the side view of the drawers opened is mesmerizing to the eye. Stunning. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on the entry in the exhibit.
