To all who keep insisting that a fiber laser CANNOT do this, please watch this video and tell me it cannot be done... this was done by a 20 w fiber.

Says this video is not available so no one will know what you are talking about. What was it doing?

I'm guessing the 'can the 20w fiber' cut metal video. Yes, it can, but thin stuff warps....

Kind of what I asked in another thread. What wattage would be needed to not warp?

Cutting aluminum business cards... Everytime I brought it up, I wa told it could not be done... This is exactly what I wanted to do.... And it can be done... heres the proof in the pudding... and with a 20w no less...

SO what would one charge for a box of 500?

It also looks like the aluminum is what, just a little heavier than paper? I will try it with my 20w tomorrow just to see if I can score it as deep.

Not gonna lie, I love that video. I'm curious though how long they tested that until they got it right.

I'VE never said a 20w laser couldn't do that! :D
But, y'all DID notice the pieces had to be snapped off? Not a big deal really, but it means the aluminum was only cut about 1/2 to 2/3 the way thru. Actually cutting all the way thru is a trick due to slag melting back into the kerf. Note also that the user allowed some cool-off time for before each subsequent pass to prevent melt-back and warping...

Way cheaper and easier to shear or for ultimate ease, buy them ready to engrave

some people will buy such stuff- every 2 years since I got the LS900 I make 300-600 alder veneer business cards for a customer. He was having them made for years before he found me. He says 'I give paper to potential customers, I give these to customers. They never lose them.' :)
I Cermarked some titanium biz cards for the owner of a travel agency once. Between the machine shop and me she paid $11 each for 'em. Only seen her one time ;)
Neat item to be able to make & sell to the few who want them...

I have cut through stainless steel with my 20w fiber laser - a razor blade. Anything will cut through just about anything given time, look at the Grand Canyon.
