If my dad was alive today he'd be 101. But though he died many years ago he was a big fan of rap music.

Bill, I watched it. Love the Sons of the Pioneers. Now I've got to reassess who's fault the newer stuff is....but if I accept any blame I can simply call the newer stuff poorly done "cultural appropriation ". Saw Roy an' Sons once in late 70s at a Roy Rogers Restaurant. They performed fearlessly on an elevated platform during a terrible rain with a lot of lightning .Twenty thousand people were there ,many holding Roy Rogers lunch boxes ,I still have my thermos bottle but neglected to bring it to the meeting.

Hank Sr. and George Jones took it to their graves, apparently, as well as J Cash. There a few REAL artist's here and there.
Hank Sr is my favorite but old Possum sure had the voice, as well as voice control.
On this studio version (there are others) ,the one he played for me, listen to how softly he delivers "forgot" on the verse "There's no room in my heart now for sadness, I've completely forgot how to cry".
That in the same lines where his voice is sharp and ear piercing.

And then there's her.
I vividly recall seeing this video air for the first time on Crook and Chase. When they switched from the video to the show, lorraine was right on the edge of breaking down. The best she could muster was to turn and look at Charlie.

But The Sons of the Pioneers predate all of this. Perhaps your heart is in pre-Hank Williams sounds?
I grew up listening the then as well. With quick look over their recordings I clearly remember Cool Water. My dad loved them deeply.

Trivia question for you, Mel. What was on the flip side of Old Man Adam and what color was the 45?

As with the texas playboys there were many members of the band. They existed for more than 40 years, maybe 50.

ken was a great guy. Life stops for me everyday at noon to watch Gunsmoke. About the only tv I watch.
