I have an old Brodhead Garret that had a variable speed reeves drive. I was having trouble with it burning up my belt. Reading through the forums I discovered guys install VFD drives. Best decision yet! I have worked with a lot of 3 phase VFD's but did not realize that they also make single phase VFD's that put out 3 phase. I now have excellent speed control, The noisy reeves drive is gone, I only need one belt, I was able to do the conversion for $200 from eBay. I finally changed my head stock bearing as well and the machine is running really smooth and much quieter. Wife is happy with the noise and I am getting much more productivity out of my lathe. If you would like to know more about it hit me up.
