Started a little project today: a cherry box, 12" wide x 12" high x 8" deep for cards at a wedding reception, slot in the top, hinged with a clasp.
1. Removed the cherry saw burn on the end grain by taking a very light pass (1/64"?) on the jointer, backed with scrap to avoid tearout as the piece exited the blades. Worked well.
2. Sanding the pieces prior to dovetailing using my PC 6" sander, hose hooked to my Craftsman shop vac, ambient cleaner running along with my 2 hp SDG connected to a downdraft table. Didn't seem all that loud, maybe 95-100 dBa. Hmm lets check it, wow, 120 dBa. Grab the ear muffs.
3. Never did half blind dovetails on my Leigh D1600 before, better get out the book. Went through it while eating lunch. Impressed by how well that spiral bound manual is written and illustrated.
