For the past 6 years, I've had my eye on a mulberry tree that is just loaded with burls. The owner was finally ready to get rid of it and said you can have it if you get someone to cut it down. So, a friend and I went together and paid another friend to cut it down. Two big trunks on the tree. So he got one and I got the other. Here are some pictures of the work in progress. As things would have it, had to go buy another chair saw to help cut it into blanks. (Stihl M362 with a 25" bar.) :D After three days, I'm still working on prepping all of the wood.

It's DIFFICULT not to be jealous, but congratulations on a serious score.

Enviable haul. By any chance are you going to dig a little and see if the roots have burls too?

there's a similarly burled mulberry tree in a county park near me.

I've tried telling them the tree is diseased and should be removed...for some reason they don't believe me. :D

maybe when your little Stihl grows up it'll be a real chainsaw! :p

Peter, no chance on the digging. I've got enough just taking care of what is above ground. Besides, the owner was going to have the stump ground up.

The red truck belonged to the tree service guy. He was nice enough to use the crane that was attached, to load the big piece on my friends trailer (hidden by the red truck) and my pickup that was in front of the red truck. He lifted a 10+ foot section of the tree (about 30" in diameter) like it was a tooth pick and put it on the trailer. Sure saved us a lot of time and back breaking.
