I saw one of their portable mills at a WW show in Atlanta a few years back. At $150, this one seems worth a look.

Scott,

I bought one in May of this year, along with a Husqvarna 385XP chainsaw. I have cut a bunch of wood with it - oak, cherry, walnut - all free logs. Check the Logosol owners forum for some of my posts, which include pictures of the wood stack that I have developed so far.

For my purposes it works well. I live in a neighborhood and dont have the space for a bandmill, which would be faster than a chainsaw mill. My only complaint is that I get tired pushing the saw through the wood. After 5 hours of cutting I am bushed. I have designed my own mill that has a crank setup (similar to the Logosol M7), which will solve the fatigue problem. I plan to build it soon.

If you have access to small quantities of free logs, and a place to mill them (where the tree is felled or somewhere else), then this is an effective milling system.

This guy uses a combination chainsaw mill and chainsaw driven bandmill (RipSaw). Quite a bit more investment, but similar portability philosophy.
