I am hooking up a new dust collector. I am getting a high pitched squeal from the hose. That will never work. How do I stop this?

Maybe there is a hole in the hose, or a leak at the connection, this could cause the noise. Think "whistle". HTH

The squeal is from the very end. I can cup my hand around the hose and stop it but it would be tough to hold my hand there all day.

James, sounds like it's not completely sealed. The clamp may not be tight enough or similar. Try taking some duck tape and putting one or two layers on the port where the hose clamps to, so that it acts kind of like a gasket and see if that doesn't help. :)

How big is the hose? If you are are trying to pull 1100CFM through a 2.5" hose, it will squeal

Try loosening the clamp, turn it 90 degrees and retighten. If that doesn't work, unhook the hose, cut off 4-6", reinstall.

I get that when I reduce down to 2.5". I think it is the amount of air flow through the smaller diameter hose along with the type of hose that I am using (a piece of pool hose).

Open your mouth really wide. While exhaling begin to close mouth. When you're down to about a 1/2" opening your exhaled air begins to make a strange whistling sound. Strange whistling sound can be modified by adjusting the dimension between upper lip and lower lip.

Me thinks you've got a duct and port size conflict.
