A Little Spunky Punky Ash Bowl

This one spalted just right while drying over the last year or so to give it some nice coloring. A little bit of a challenge on the finishing side to get baby butt smooth but pleased with the results. 11" x 3" x 1/4" finished with Mahoney's Utility and then Wax Finishes.

How was the turning experience? Some of the ash I have turned was rugged and crispy. It was good once I got to the sanding stage. Was this one smooth?

Turning it was no problem, nice fine shaving with shear scraping also. Sanded up to 400 grit and everything looked and felt good. After applying the walnut oil and raising the grain with it, had a few spots that just didn't want to smooth out with 600 grit. Finally got it but it took 3 or 4 tries.

Great looking bowl David. And yes, that punky stuff certainly has it's challenges but you pulled it off nicely!
