Tip hat to Stewie..... I had look it up to see what it was used for. more specifically, knowing what it was did not help me until I looked it up. Very cool.,

No -- it was (is) used to gauge correct length at which to cut clapboard so that it butted up against corner board.

The Stanley 89 (also pictured) is used to gauge overlap.

Thanks. I kind of doubt I'll ever have need for it and it probably isn't valuable enough to bother with ebay. Hmmm... more things in the pile....
