Mike,

I've had great luck with Midwest Dowel, 513-574-8488, www.midwestdowel.com (http://www.midwestdowel.com). Prices are somewhat lower than others but their biggest advantage is the different woods and sizes they offer.

For instance, they offer the classic shaker pegs in 6 different woods vs Rockler's 3. Both have maple, red oak and cherry. In addition, Midwest has poplar, ramin and walnut.

With dowels, Midwest offers 12 different woods vs Rockler's 4. Both have cherry, red oak and walnut. In addition, Rockler has birch, Midwest has ramin, poplar, white oak, teak, honduras mahogany, hickory, hard maple, ash and beech.

(BTW, ramin is a fine white tropical hardwood similar to mahogany in texture, 1/3 to 1/2 the cost and available in more sizes, i.e., nine standard sizes in addition to 1/8, 3/16, 5/16 and 7/16).

Regards, Joe
