We'd like to encourage the members of Saw Mill Creek to enter their work
in the SawDust Café Gallery competition. Mini Max is the sponsor of this
area and they will be awarding the grand prize of a 16" bandsaw at the end
of the season. Great prizes to be awarded are from Lee Valley, Zinsser and
others to be determined. Woodworking experts like Frank Klausz, Toshio
Odate, Brian Boggs, Paul Schürch, editors of Popular Woodworking magazine
and others will be among the judges. For more information on the
competition, please visit http://www.woodworksevents.com/gallery.shtml.

If members of the Creek would like to arrange a get together at any of our
shows, let me know which show and we'll help to designate a special area
for Creekers.

We appreciate your help, Keith. Hope to meet you one day soon and look
forward to meeting lots of Creekers!

Work safely,

Judy

How do these shows compare to The Woodworking Show?

Green Bay is an awful long drive from Chicago if it is pretty much the same stuff!

Rich, unfortunately for those of us in the Indiana area, WoodWorks did not do very well when it came to Indianapolis two years ago. But, the shows (I've only been to the WoodWorks show the one time it was here) are quite different. They certainly both have vendors hawking their wares in various ways, including demos, but I think WoodWorks was a cut above because of their other demonstrators--the "big names" in the woodworking community who aren't necessarily selling anything, but demonstrating their craft. The WoodWorks I went to had demonstrators such as Toshio Odate, Stuart Mortimer, Don Weber, Harry Memelink (who was selling a turning tool, but he was a very accomplished turner, too), Yeung Chan and Frank Klausz, among others I can't remember. These demonstrators were much more interactive and personable, and their demonstrations weren't just canned, memorized spiels.

I'd rather go to a WoodWorks show personally, but I will probably still go to The Woodworking Show when it comes to Indy early next year anyway.

Jason,

Thanks for the review. Unfortunately, the woodworking show is about an 1.5 hours closer to home this year for me. The Wood Works show is going to Green Bay and the woodworking show to Milwaukee. Since they are on consecutive weekends I will probably only get to go to one.... Decisions... decisions :)

I really like the Woodworks shows...Johnathan and company do a great job organizing them. I hope to get to at least one of the two in my area again this year.
