I would look for a bar stool with a back, or an office chair. I have bar stool (no back) I use.

These are a bit pricey, but I have one of these in my shop. Mine was with gray fabric when I bought it years ago.

Swivel, cheap, expensive, padded, pneumatic adjustable???

Search Amazon for "stool with back" or "shop stool with back"

Here's one: https://www.amazon.com/National-Public-Seating-6218HB-Adjustable/dp/B00KQPBK5I

I have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Shop-Stool-with-Backrest/dp/B005ER03V0 plus a couple of others.

I bought one from Northern tool a few years back. I recall it was less than $50.

Build it! That would be a terrific woodworking project.

Look for a dentists stool. The curved back is adjustable and can be swung around the front to lean against when working at the bench.

I have this one from Sears. Works well.

Lowes has a Kobalt brand in store.

I use an old dental assistant's stool. Has an arm that rotates front to back and is great for leanng forward into the bench. Adjustable height and foot rest. Plenty of used ones around. You will likely find several used dental equipment suppliers in LA.

I have a bad back and really like the Craftsman linked above.

Google drafting chair. No shortage of options.

Another +1 on the Craftsman. It is even more comfortable since I added two layers of an old bath towel on the seat.

I haven't found one that works. I control back pain by rotating tasks so that I am not doing one job for too long. I find standing is best with the bench top angled toward me if the task allows. But really, rotate tasks and keep on the move. It keeps me able all my stuff. Cheers

Thanks everyone for really good suggestions. It looks like the Lowes stool is the same as the Sears and since Lowes is very near me, I will go check it out.

Another vote for the Sears...
