Wenge

First time using wenge wood. The piece I have has been in shop for years, all sides are very dark in color with wonderful grain, etc. Began milling and much to my surprise the cut or planed wood is yellow in color with dark streaks running thru the wood. Attractive but not what I was hoping for. Will the wood darken over time? I tried applying some tung oil to a scrap piece, no change in color. Confused!
