Not from that pic. A close-up of a section with the weathered surface scraped clean would help.

Regardless of what it is, quarter sawn white oak is a very good out door wood. It is one of the best.

It is one of the best.Thanks for the reply I have been thinking of using white oak, I have since had the frame blasted and powder coated Grey even though the pic looks a little purple. Im trying to decide how to finish the oak.

I thought gliders were made of spruce. AKA "Spruce Goose" which is actually made of birch.

Haha. I think the gliders I used to buy as a kid were balsa wood.
