Branding irons

I don't know a thing about the lasers used for woodworking, but can they cut metal into a branding iron?

The lasers most of us use are CO2 lasers that do great for wood and plastics but cannot cut metal at all. There is another type, YAG lasers
that cut metal but are not good for wood and plastics. They are mainly used industrially and very expensive compared to CO2, but maybe someone has one.
