Those of you who are interested in the latest in scanning and precision measurement technology might be interested in this event if you live within a reasonable distance from Newport News Virginia. I recently completed new signs for their office and shop so I have had an opportunity to learn a little bit about the company. API has scanned the turret from the Ironclad Monitor, a full size ship, cars and a whole host of other projects. They provide scanning services and sell their machines to companies that need precision measurement capability, particularly those who operate assembly lines where measurements need to be taken verify compliance.

Check out their web site for more information about the company:

API Open House

Automated Precision Inc Services Division is holding an open house on April 6th, 2017 at their new facility in Newport News, VA. In addition, the event will feature a number of speakers making informative presentations on laser trackers, machine tool health, and some interesting application stories. I currently have a rep from NRK attending, and working on getting a rep from Verisurf and Polyworks to attend as well. The speaker schedule is as follows:
Demo #1 - Paul Nicholas (Services Sales Manager) will be in the large conference room doing a mock training session.
Demo #2 - Ryan Ritter (Contract Manager) will be doing a laser tracker demo using the OT2 and vProbe on a dune buggy frame to showcase the capabilities of the autolock feature. Ryan will show the model in Spatial Analyzer and have NRK’s Bill Anderson on site to take any software questions.
Demo #3 - John Gross (Calibration Manager) will perform a quick calibration demo and explain why calibration is so important. He will also delve into our new ability to calibrate OT2’s at the Newport News location.
Demo #4 - Art Kietlinski (NA Service Manager) will speak on Machine Tool Health and what that can mean for your company's bottom line.
Demo #5 - Stephen Strand (Scanning Application Engineer) will discuss the USS Monitor gun turret scan completed by API Services for the Mariners Museum this past summer. He will discuss why laser scanning is pivotal in taking accurate scans of historical monuments and other historical preservation projects we have done.
Demo #6- We will have speaker Will Hoffman, the Conservation Project Manager and Senior Conservator at the USS Monitor Center, talk about the history of the Civil War-era USS Monitor steamship, API’s critical part in the conservation, and current/future historical preservation projects the Mariners' Museum is performing. See API's part in 3D imaging the USS Monitor. (http://www.apisensor.com/3d-imaging-uss-monitor-reverse-engineering/)

We will also have various TV monitors set-up throughout the building showing the API story video, SFIS, etc.
