Anyone do a really slick one of these? I've looked around the web and of course see a number of hardware kits sold by Rockler and others that all seem to be more or less the same thing, centered around gas pistons. I'm wondering whether there are "higher end" options for hardware or whether some here may have custom solutions that work well. Is it a matter of getting a kit and sort of modifying it / adapting it to a design or is it better to buy other parts separately?

I'm wanting to do a vertical Queen. Want it to be very smooth and easy to operate, and also not look like a Murphy bed once it's down (can't stand the end rail/legs that the kits have).

I'm sure some of you guys have done a bunch of these. Any experience and advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Linear actuators come to mind, very smooth push button operation and affordable if you can work out the technical details.
