This is the 2nd bowl I made for a customer from the downed hickory tree. I had posted a picture of the larger one earlier and thought I would try the new multiple attachment features of the new software with this one.

Ken,

I haven't used the multiple picture post yet but we just changed the admin settings to show the pictures in messages instead of the links. If everyone would prefer to have the links we can change the setting again. Those who don't have broadband Internet may prefer to see the links as the message pages will load much faster. Having the pictures load in messages is more convenient, you don't have to click on the attachment links one at a time and you can slide the page to compare pictures.

I vote for having pictures in messages instead of links since we just got broadband installed in the shop office :) (Non-Woodworking Gloat)

I vote for having pictures in messages...

Me, too. Even without broadband, under 100K photos are not that horrible to download and if folks posting are processing with software, it's easy to get a nice 640x480 picture with great display resolution at about 50-60K using a 10-1 JPG compression ratio.

Since I too use broadband I also prefer the pics in lieu of links.

As you can see the pics I posted are less than 15K ea. Like Jim I compress all my posted pics to minimize load times. I usually resize my pics to somewhere between 5" to 6" width and use a compression ratio that provides something less than 40K.

Bowl looks great as always, Ken! I really like the medallion you put in the bottom, too.

As for pics vs. links, I vote for pics. A properly compressed jpeg of approximately 640x480 pixels will end up, as Ken said, less than 40k usually, without sacrificing much pic quality, and still having a reasonable download time on dialup.

Ken- Nice looking bowl. The coloration looks a bit different than the first one (if I'm remembering right); a bit lighter? Keep on sharpenin' while you work the hickory!

I vote "Yes" to pics vs links, as well.

BTW Ken, are you finished with the new user tips yet?? :D (please don't burn down my house)

You are right Mark -- the large bowl was pretty much saturated with oil. This one was finished with only Deft clear finish.

If you dial 911 in time you will be OK<p align="center"><IMG src="http://www.kenswoodcentral.com/firetruck.gif">
