Has anyone successfully wrapped a cooking pan handle with a heat-resistant, self-sticking tape, something that isn't slick on the surface but ideally has some texture for better gripping? Like a sports or tool handle wrap, but able to withstand heat? The pans I'm thinking about, copper pans with iron handles, won't go in the dishwasher (I'm the dishwasher). Thanks for any information.

[Vollrath makes slip on handles that work like a champ and last for years but they don't easily fit all sizes of handles.]

Silicone rubber handles are available. For instance https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Silicone-Hot-Handle-Holder/dp/B01L7XWEQQ/ref=pd_pgh_B004QM8W5S_B01L7XWEQQ?pf_rd_p=280221408 2&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B004QM8W5S&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=B46TN8AAJNXHBM34EM0Z

You might have to do some shopping around to find one that fits your pan well enough. But that silicone rubber stuff is fine with amazingly high temperatures. You can buy silicone rubber liners for cookie sheets; they go in the oven while you're baking the cookies.

if you have a gas stove, they will become burned on the bottom if you let the handle get close to the burner, have it spun around on the side with another burner on, or even have the burner on high, etc. we have a high output range. i just carry a kitchen towel on my shoulder while cooking.

I use slip-on silicone handle covers in my kitchen for when they are necessary...such as a pan out of a 400º oven back on the range top to finish a pan sauce. Even then, mitts or a potholder may be necessary for "longer term" holding. Nature of the beast.

I would not use any kind of tape for this application.
