I retrieved this from a tree that blew over at church recently. Any ideas on what kind of wood it is? Acacia???

Quick look, don’t know right off Brian, but not Acacia IMO, they all have these kind of compound or even double compound leaves as far as I know.

I am wondering about "black acacia". It has the more irregular leave cluster.

Looks like you might be right Brian, the pictures I find do show the narrow rounded tips on de sparse leaves, and a rough ridged bark, but other than that, I don’t know, they certainly do not grow anywhere near here, apparently a Australian tree.

Reminds me of Black/Sour Gum when it starts having leaves. Did it have any berries on it in the summer?

It is a part of our "urban forest" on the slopes around the church, and I have never noticed if it has berries.

Sure looks like olive to me. I havefour of them on our property and leaves and wood look just like that.

The shape of the tree didn't remind me of olive, but I sure see what you mean, in the bark, the leaves, and the wood. I have a piece of an olive trunk at home. It will be fun to see them together.
