I design on AI and have to save files as a PDF to be read by my control computer on my Trotec SP400, I have just updated my Job Control software and now Adobe locks up each time I try to open the file. Trotec says that no one uses AI, instead Corel which you can print directly from. Is there a work around outside of buying Corel? Is there a reason that Adobe reader, which worked fine is suddenly sick? Tried updating to fresh Adobe reader (not free anymore) and installing my older versions, no fixes yet. Help!

Is this the software you're using for job control: https://www.troteclaser.com/en-us/laser-machines/laser-software/unidrive-postscript-converter/

Don't have that machine but I had just been reading about them because I also use all adobe software.

Why not just hook up the SP to your design computer?

How about going back to the previous version?

Trotec says that no one uses AI
That is simply not true. There are several people using AI on this forum alone!

I was told by Trotec that the only format I could take to the laser was PDF, since I`m using a Mac.

I have reinstalled the old version, same lockup issue.

I know others use AI, support uses Corel and have no real knowledge base for a Mac running AI. Thats why I posted here, knowing that some here do!

Is it Adobe that is locking up? So I think you are using your Mac to design in AI, save to PDF, Then import PDF into your Trotec job control software correct?
Are you using Adobe Reader to check it before you import? And Adobe reader is locking up? If so, then just download a different reader for your computer.
But if the PDF is locking up with the job control software, I've got nothing for you! It would sound like a Trotec problem. And Reader still is free from what I see and I downloaded last week.

OH, if it is PDF version related, can AI save to earlier version? Corel can go back several versions if needed.

Are you running Windows on your Mac?

No, I don't, Im having enough troubles with my Windows 10 machines and my Mac is smooth and easy, hate to mess up a good Mac. Saving files as PDF on a thumb drive and walking 15 feet to the laser is no issue. But over the weekend I reset W10 and reinstalled my Job Control 10, new Acrobat Dc and toady, back to golden again. Something caused a fault in the control computer leaving it unable to handle PDFs with any reader after a remote update on JC, no idea why. The guys at Trotec support were very patient and helpful. Never give up, never surrender!

I haven't been able to use Adobe reader on my primary pc for a few years. It distorts the size of everything and I can't print form it. I use Corel Fusion instead.
