Hi,

Have any of you all been impressed w getting a modification to turn one wheel of a slow grinder into a belt sander?

Last week, the Rikon 8" slow 1HP grinder appeared in the shop, to be used for sharpening.

Now, am considering getting one of the attachments below:

Above is a cheaper one..................... This one above is around $300
(hopefully has a platen)

What you all think please?

thanks!

Seems awfully pricy for what you are getting. At that price I would buy a used 6X48 delta or powermatic sander with a 12" disk. I paid under$200 for mine but it was three phase so I swapped motors. I was also in the market for a 2hp three phase motor for my mill/drill.

Are you looking for a belt sander or a belt grinder (also called a linisher)? The attachment on the left appears to be a linisher, give away is the rubber wheel drive having, for want of a better term, "paddles" that both tension the belt and allow for some "give" when the object being ground is pressed against it. Not likely to include a platen for a disk sander.
Since I am looking for a linisher, where is the attachment advertised?
If you are looking for a belt sander, unless space is a problem, a separate belt sander is relatively inexpensive.
Just my thoughts,
Mike
