Picked this up today for $75.00. This is my third combination plane. I should probably stop now...

Why????

Set each up for a single task, as a Plough, as a bead, as a Dado plane, Then all you'd have to do is just change out the width of the cutters...and not have to change them spurs from "up" or "down"...

BTW: I'm still learning how to use my first one.

I thought so. My wife and I went to South Carolina in Feb. and we hit a lot of antique and "used stuff" shops. I was thinking there would be lots of old tools down there. Not so much. I saw a rusted up #45 with no blades they wanted $175 for so I jumped on this one.

That is a good find.

The angle of the photo makes it impossible to tell if the slitter or the locking screw under the fence knob are there.

Jim - the slitter is there although I took it out and put it in the blade box because I didn't want to slice my hand on it. The locking screw for the fine-adjustment on the fence is AWOL. It is also missing one of the nickers. I will be keeping my eye open for junk planes as I could use some part for a couple of others as well.

Kris,

That Bay auction site has parts for 45s, just type in "Stanley 45."

Unless things have changed the locking bolt is seldom listed. If my memory works today I will try to check and see what the size and thread are on the locking bolt.

I did just see a couple listings for the early style locking bolt. I do not know if those will work as a replacement for the later style.

Thanks Stew and Jim.

If all else fails I do have a "no-name #48 which has knobs/bolts that have the same thread and could work.

Thanks Jerry - I cut some beads with it last night just messing around. Pretty nice.

That is interesting to know. The "no-name #48" might be a Stanley product since most of the time their threads were different than other makers.

It is good to have a lock bolt on the adjustable fence or it can flex a bit.

While I was resetting mine, I looked at the locking bolt.....about half the diameter of the other bolts.

Also am having a "problem" with the two thumbscrews to fix the fence to the rods......needs a pair of pliers to turn either of them......have cleaned the threads, and a drop of oil added.....still too hard to turn....threads look good....not sure what is going on....

Put mine to work tonight...
