I've had to cut the project to hit the Thanksgiving deadline. The "free-standing" leaves will be done later...

Today, I glued up the trestles and sanded the top to 180.

This week I will continue sanding to 220 and then put the first coat of oil on...I can't wait to see this wood sing!

It will be a beautiful table Mike. It will be a thrill for you to share your first Thanksgiving together around your new table knowing you built it for that occasion and many more to come!

That is some wicked beautiful walnut. Did you get in the Chicago area?
Owl Hardwoods up in Des Plaines, maybe? I remember getting some gorgeous walnut there a few times. .....GO SOX!....

Mike,

That is indeed outstanding, the matching of grain for the top is super, well done. Hope to see finished photos soon.

Thanks guys...

Chris> The lumber is from NWTIMBER. Not cheap, but it is as nice as I've ever worked. The top is from a a bookmatched pair of vertical grain 20"x108" boards. Sanded thickness is 1-5/16. The cut to size is 39-3/4" x 66".

Jeff> Thanksgiving is not that crazy at our house. Niether of us have extened family int he area. But as we continue to add to our family (my wife is expecting!) I suspect that we will need both (39-3/4"x20") leaves in the future!
