This isn't a project yet but will have to be at some point. In my last batch of Walnut last week I found a few nuggets and culled them for special projects yet to come but they were too pretty not to share here. There were three of them and I resawed the lesser of the group to get my settings right, put some Naphtha on to get a good look, and set them aside. Today I needed the big bandsaw for something else so I cut the other two pieces while the fence was still set.

Here are the three pieces before cutting -

And the lesser of the three, the one on the left, cut and bookmatched -

These are the two pieces I cut today, no Naphtha and straight off the bandsaw -

I'm not sure what I'll build with these - end table, serving trays, small coffee table, wall art - just not sure yet. The two larger pieces will make a panel about 16" x 28" and the smaller one about 16" x 24". The pieces are about 0.200" thick now and will finish out after sanding somewhere around 0.165" - 0.175".

Enjoy!
David

Nice. I have a whole crotch section of a fairly large walnut tree that a friend sawed up for me years ago. It's been waiting for a project. Here's what I did with a small scrap.

Pretty wood. Hard as marble.

Those are nice! I started to saw one in half and use it for something but went ahead and did three cuts to get the four piece bookmatch. I have some others that I might saw in half, though. What you did with yours is pretty neat! The last time I had a piece like these I made an iPhone stand for my desk -

A few days ago my daughters family lost Wally, their pug family member who was 14 or more years old.

Am I the only one that sees his image in the second picture?

Nice wood. Especially from this end as we see our old friend in it!

Nope, Bill, I see him also! So what would you do with this/these pieces?

It occurs to me that this post should have been in the Woodworking Projects subforum instead of this one since these will be projects soon, so if a mod wants to move it that's fine with me...

David,

I must confess that my home woodworking focuses on fulfilling needs much more than using imagination. So if a piece like that turned up in my shop I'd probably finish it as is and hang it on a wall. 😳

I am am sure you will be more creative than I... 😄

I don't see a pug I see a Chinese dragon.
