I picked up this new brace today for the shop. This is after 3 hours in the electrolysis tank. It looks like a P.S. & W. however when looking at the stamp I'm not so sure. Does anyone recognize this brace?

Thanks!

Nice old brace, and always great to find some identification.
The patent date refers to the 1884 Ellrich patent #293957, and was manufactured by Ellrich Hardware or Howe Manufacturing according to datamp

[similar to the PSW ratchet desgn, as discussed at http://www.sydnassloot.com/Brace/PSW.htm ]

PS&W made some pretty good chisels as well. Nice find.
I found a nice Stanley 963 12" brace yesterday for $5.
It's in the cleaning process right now.

Thanks Joe, I really like it. Just when I swear to stop wasting time a antique shops or auctions I pick something like this up for $7. How are you cleaning your brace?
