My son and I drove to Durham, NC this morning and took a look at this place.

SAWEEET! I wish I had the space/money for one of those! Be sure to post some pics when you get her put together!

What's the headstock/tailstock mounted at the end of the ShopBot for?

Thanks Bruce and Mike. You will have to blame Keith Outten for the Blue Iron in the shop... Watch that man if you are ever around him:D

The Head stock and tail stock is the way you can turn spindles on the CNC machine. I did not get that option, but you never know when UPS just might bring one to my shop.

Anyone is welcome to stop by and help put this thing together, I'll be in the shop all day tomorrow and Sunday afternoon. Glad I took Monday off from work too.

I will post more pictures as I gets put together.

if you point your web browsers to kc4ylx.smugmug.com you can find more pictures if you like.

Ed,
I know you didn't buy that as a decoration for the shop;) so what are your plans for putting it through its paces? Do you already have clients lined up for products produced on the unit? (By the way well done)

Oh Yeah! I can still smell the fresh paint on that bad boy. Mine is a tad dusty these days but working up a storm. Honestly I can't say enough good things about my ShopBot, clearly the best bang for the buck of any machine I ever purchased.

Ed, tomorrow morninig I will be cutting Corian plaques and hopefully I will be machining the sheet foam by afternoon...filn at eleven :).

Good luck with the assembly, be patient, it may take two days.

Thanks everybody.

Keith,
I will start the table assembly this morning. I do not have a 6' level but will go as far as I can without one. My 4' just will not work for this. Maybe a trip to get another one is in store. I am going to be doing this solo until Sunday afternoon when I get the first help from Scott and MeLisa. I think my engine lift I use the mount bowl blanks just might work as the extra hand in holding the X rails up while I bolt on the legs.

I am still trying to find Corian scraps and am not making headway. I might have to give up on Corian in my area unless someone reading this knows of someplace near that I can visit.

To answer the question what am I going to do with this machine? I have lots of little jobs I had wanted to do with it but since the word started leaking out I was getting one, other shops have contacted me about making parts for them..... Maybe I'll never have time to make my own parts  .

Scott is working on our website so in the next week or two there should be something new there and a new look.

BTW, the folks at ShopBot were FANTASTIC when Scott and I arrived. Tim took his time with us to answer all questions, show us lots of stuff on the computer and give us a shop tour. I am now sorry I didn't take more pictures but I was just overwhelmed and didn't push the shutter button.

I like their laptop workstation on the left of the top picture - nice to see that they are using their own product.

I think that this is a fascinating machine and look forward to hearing how you get on with it.

Ed,

If you can find a six foot straight edge that is true you can put your level on top of it to level across the rails and level them. Use the shims that ShopBot provided and place them under the level untill plumb, then install the same shims under the rails and retest.

I have been machining the foam sheets for the cinder block today, I need to make three more then start glueing all eleven of them together. I hope to have it done before I retire tonight so I can coat the project with brown coat tomorrow morninig. Cleanup is a big chore, the foam chips are everywhere.

That L O N G level is just what the doctor ordered! The shims that are sent with the bot are quite neat. I was gald when my cousin showed up to see "what I had gotten this time" and offered to help. I just walked up from the shop and boy my feet hurt from walking on cement all day long. I have a big old happy simile all over my face as I got more done than expected:D

How did the "block" go? I hope to see pictures soon!!

Here is where I stopped tonight.
