Going to be in Phoenix this week and wondered if there was anyplace that had great turning blocks for bowls.

6 years ago I was in Tucson and bought something for $2 out of the scrap barrel. It turned out to be my wife's favorite bowl; some sort of extremely hard quilted wood. I don't expect to get that lucky, but something interesting would be nice.

They close at 5pm and aren't open at all Sunday?! Very poor chance of my wife letting me look at wood during the daytime.

I've been to that store a few times. While they do have a good variety of wood, their prices are a lot like Woodcraft or Rockler. Some bargains to be had but not a lot. The last time I was there, they had a big bin of Desert Ironwood cutoffs and scraps. It was priced per pound and you could find some chunks usable for pen blanks or stopper blanks but not much more...

Went there today while my wife was at the pool.
Nice store that I wish was near me. Not really a destination though.
They were running a20% off sale and I found a block of figured chakta vita to make it worthwhile.
