Anyone have an old autocad program kicking around gathering dust? I took a class at the local community college back when release 12 was out.we could have purchased the program for student price, but I didn't even have a home computer back then so I passed on it. Now I wish I had gotten it. I currently have a computer with windows xp. Yeah, I'm not up with the times.

Instead of Autocad take a look at Doublecad XT (http://download.cnet.com/DoubleCAD-XT/3000-18496_4-10907980.html) It works very similar to Auto Cad and it is free. It will run on your Windows XP computer just fine.

Acad 12......thats been many moons ago.

Iirc, that was the last version offered that came on floppy discs.

Sorry, but I don't think you'll have much luck finding a copy.

I think Autocad 12 came out in 2012 as my Autocad 10 came out in 2010

Look at Autocad Fusion 360 from autocad. It is free to usr for hobbiest and inventor type people. I use it and there is a ton of youtube support with it. I have never gone back to sketchup since starting fusion 360.

Autocad R12 was released in 1992.

I was in woodworking college between 1992 and 1995. We used version 11 in my last year. 12 was the first version used in windows and the college started using it in the fall of 1995 just after I graduated.

I could be thinking of 12 and 13 with 13 bring the first release for windows. Anyhow 12 was early 90's for sure

Did you do a search for "Autocad R12 download" There are several sites that seem to have files you can download. I have no idea of their reliability.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. My interest in autocad is for the capability of doing machine shop drawings which is what I used it for back when.I later tried a free download, don't remember which one, but using it was like trying to mill something on a drillpress when you were used to a Bridgeport. Maybe I'll check out some newer stuff like suggested.

Tony, the newer Windows versions of AutoCAD are much easier, faster, and have many more features than R12. It is worth the time investment to learn. I remember the early DOS versions - rendering large drawings and going to the break room to get a cup of coffee, socializing a little, return to the office, and acad would still be rendering...
