Kind of a general question don't you think? Are you looking at mechanical engraving, laser engraving, how thick a plastic? medallions already formed? or are you making them too?
You can get by with one of those little $100 lasers if you are buying medallions and just engraving a few. or even an ebay machine. Heck you can engrave with your pocket knife.

Joe,

I expect you are inquiring about the inlay medallions that you see lots of our Members using here, particularly the turners.
These can be made from just about any material as long as its thin enough for the project. Normally we use a Forsner bit to drill the inlay and make the medallion the same diameter so it drops in the inlay hole with a few drops of glue.

Since the material for this type of inlay is very thin just about any CO2 laser is capable of both engraving and vector cutting the medallion.

Joe, most of us here have at least a computer, good graphic software (Corel), a laser and a substrate (plastic).

Without more info like quanitity production per minute/hour , space available, $$ available for investment, etc. your question is unanswerable
