Hey all,

I thought this would be a simple google search, but I haven't managed to come up with anything but a few shim packages here and there and dado sets, so I thought I'd post to see if any one knew where I could get them or what they were called. Where can I buy blade spacers/washers that would be like a shim, but in the thickness range of 3/8" - 1"? (eg, a washer that's 5/8" inner, approx 2 1/2" outer and .5" thick)

Cheers,

F

I think what you are maybe thinking of are blade stabilisers.
Were in fashion for a while I had a set found they limited depth of cut so much as to be useless forget them and rethink your intended use.

Do a Google search using "5/8" id spacer".....they are out there.

Are you wanting to do tenons with two blades on the same arbor? If so I just use plywood, hardwood (planed to thickness) or MDF scrap.

Me,too. Why not just make your own? Hint: they don't have to be round--square is fine as long as you put the arbor hole in the center.

+2 on making your own. I have several made of hardwood to match my mortising chisels.

Hi Frazer,
I have two sets of Infinity tools shims. They are in metric but you can shim to an exact fractional dimension.
Search for "4pc. Precision Shim Set For Thick Kerf Flat Top Blades"
Thx,
Chris

*edit: Here's a post I did on twin blades and these spacers.

Thanks guys! I didn't think about making my own - I'll probably go that route since the thickness is custom. Chris - those are what I'm looking for (was hoping to get them thicker, but I can buy a couple sets and that'll do).

If you have a friend with a metal lathe, these would be as easy as it gets to make.

Take 2-1/2" bar stock, drill 19/32 hole, ream to 5/8, and part off various thicknesses.

I used hole saws with 1/8" aluminum , first the 2 1/2" then the 5/8" on the drill press's slowest speed. I used WD-40 for cutting fluid.
