I want to make an upholstery pad that will sit on a smooth varnished surface. It cannot be permanently affixed, but I don't want it sliding around. Are there non-slip materials that would work for the bottom of the pad? If so, do they continue to work for a long time -- say, years?

Interesting. I wonder if people have used rubber like drawer liners for this. They seem to be fairly tacky. Just don't know if they will leave a residue or somehow mar a nicely varnished finsih

I've seen cloth ties used at the corners. Sometimes rubber will stick to finish products after a while....both a solution and a problem.

They have these rubber pads that you pace under throw rugs to keep them from sliding around on smooth floors. They work okay.

Yeah, there's non-skid shelf liner, and it's big brother, non- skid rug pads. They work well when new, but in my experience they lose their nonskidiness over time. That might be the best I can do, but I'm hoping for some better idea.
