I make the bottom too thin every once in a while. I don't throw them away sometimes I add a piece of wood and salvage them. Tonight I had a brainstorm (DANGER) I have these cheap Harbor Frieght magnetic dishes. My wife has one for her sewing tools, needles & pins. These magnetic dishes have a tenon type magnet on the bottom. I made the hole in the bottom of the bowl sized too accept the magnet with a press fit. A bad patch is better than a hole

I did once. It was a very small shallow NE bowl. I made a post to fit & turned it into a ring holder.

Looks like a nice idea Kevin! If you are making the bottom of your bowls too thin - or going through them - what are you using to gauge thickness while you are turning them?

I don't think anybody here has ever cut through the bottom of a bowl. I know I haven't.

No funnel here, however I have made a couple of open tapered cylinders. Does that count?

That's not a funnel--it's a thimble--a funnel is an 16" high megaphone made of purchased Camphor wood--ouch!!

I think the real question is not if have you ever turned a funnel but, when have you turned a funnel?:D

Ditto.

Oh the other hand, I have made lamphades, display stands for a bowl, flower pots and a funnel or two. A ring stand is a new idea.

Make them into lamp shades.
