If you remember a few weeks back, I posted some pics of some Pear that fell victim to the hurricane. I got brave and decided to try an entire crotch cluster turning. Roughed then soaked in DNA, which works wonders, since there is a total of 6 piths around the circumference. Just buffed this evening (THAT was fun in itself! )

For me, that's just flat out one of the best looking pieces I've seen. It just has so much to talk about. Great name for it, too. Some beauty as a result of the beast.

Great job, Travis!

Thanks for the picture!

Travis, a remarkable piece. For a lot of people this piece's origin and name will make it very valuable. After hurricane Floyd devastated this area in 1999 several local artists capitalized on the devastation with pieces of art work portraying the flooding and wind damage. It is always wonderful to see that from tragedy things of beauty can arise. It gives people hope and a sense of normalcy to see a Phoenix rise from the ashes.....Terrific!

The hole captures your attention, and the contrasting colors of the wood marks this piece as exceptional. I bet this one was easy to get the shavings out while hollowing.

Travis, that is flat-out gorgeous!:) Not sure I'd have the vision to "see" that in a piece of wood, nor the guts to try and pull it off!:D Splendid work!:)
