My 2 favorite teams are the Packers and the Patriots. Always fun when both are in the playoffs. They've only once faced off in the Super Bowl back in '97. Couldn't pick a favorite then and still can't.

Bill McNiel

Simple equation....
Packers beat Cowboys on the road, Seahawks beat Atlanta on the road, Packers have to travel to Seattle and play in front of the 12s and we all know how that turns out. Seahawks dominate the Pats in the Super Bowl.
Easy math lads.

And root against the Patriots and CowboysGood answer, and the correct one. On NFC side, I root for ABC (anybody but Cowboys or Carolina. I root for Seahawks for mister "too little to play in NFL" AKA Russel Wilson. I guess he showed all those "know it alls.

Bruce Page

I only root for the Cowboys to make it to the SB because my long suffering daughter has been a diehard fan for years. She & my S-I-L drive to Dallas a couple of times a year to watch them lose. My other daughter and S-I-L are Raiders fans..

John,

Your mail box is full. Glad to see you're writing again, but you picked the wrong winner. I like the Chiefs and Packers with a Packers win. Of course, dad disagrees. Nearly everyone, except Bruce, is glad Denver didn't make it.

The strongest teams look to me to be the Cowboys from the NFC and the Patriots from the AFC.

That's who I think is going to the superbowl, with the Patriots winning.

Lots of things could happen though. The Falcons have a great offense. The Seahawks have a great defense. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are playing really well right now.

Great football this weekend.

I am certain many were disappointed with the outcome of the Kansas City game. I do think they need to start penalizing these players with a few games off when the intentionally hit helmet to helmet. A few thousand dollar fine does nothing when you make the kind of money they make.

Aren't the Raiders close to where you live? I, too, want to see New England vanquished. The question centers on whether Pittsburgh has the ability to succeed at that endeavor. Pittsburgh certainly plays dirty enough football to make a dent.

Honestly, packers and steelers. Realistically, I suspect it will be Atlanta and New England. That will be one hell of a game. Since I hate New England, I would rather it be (realistically) Atlanta and Pittsburgh. My Packers are just too beat up. Nelson is sure putting in a gritty game, though.

Rich Riddle

I'm just hoping for a good game. No blow outs.
That said, unless Atlanta was giving Rogers the middle of the field, there should be some concern for their secondary.
However, if the Pat's can't get a run game going, and sustain it, Atlanta will just sit back and give Brady the middle of the field, then shorten it.

Like I said, just hoping for a good game.

You gotta feel for these haters.

I would imagine many of the Pat's fans here are old enought to remember how bad they were in the 80's.

Football really is not much fun when your team chronically lets you down. It actaully becomes painful!

I remember, and they where terrible, we earned this.

It is to bad that when humans are backed into a corner their instinct is to point the finger, blame, trash talk creat conflict or just otherwise be little. Sadly it is what it is..

Another thing i love about the Patriots "class"..

Bill Belichick: When you win say little, when you lose say less. I think they're a class act too.

Back when Sean Payton came to the Saints, they modeled a lot of what they did after the Patriots. Starting with the Patriots drafting and free agency strategies. This was back in 2006, The Patriots were very good and the Saints were very bad back then. Bill Belichick was very helpful to the Saints. I think he is to a lot of the teams and past coaches and players he was associated with.

And it's so funny to watch him with the press. He's the master.

He's a good guy and a great coach. He's kept the Patriots winning for a lot of years now. A throwback to coaches like Shula, Noll and Landry.

PHM

Edit - But I would add that I think the Falcons might take this Super Bowl. The Patriots tend to try to take the other teams main threat out of the game and live with what the other players do against his defense. In the case of this game, I think that means take Julio Jones out of the game with double coverage on him. Do the Falcons have enough other weapons to win the game other than Julio Jones? I think they do.

I'm looking forward to what I think will be a very competitive super bowl.

Patrick Walsh
01-24-2017, 6:56 PM
The winner of the Super Bowl is never a given. Both teams clearly are very good thats obvious.

I dont know if their has ever been a team so good that when it came to the Super Bowl it was a given whom would win. If there has been i am to young to remember it.

One of the things i like most about the Patriots is their class. If they where good but a bunch of jerks i would be the first one to hate on them also. The facts are both Bill and Tom are classy guys of good if not great moral character. They set the tone for the team and expect the same out of every player.

I know its football and all but there is nothing worse than a guy like Richard Shermin always talkin smack showing how much a looser he is, or a guy like Cam Newton so freaking impressed by himself it makes you wanna puke.

Im pretty disapointed in Bill and Tom having now gotten a clear picture they are obviously friendly with our new commander in cheif. I have to say that one makes me very suspect of their character. I'll be the first to admit when that surfaced i thought "hmm maybe they are a bunch of cheater".

Only time will tell. For now they do it well and with class to boot. I dont much care for their friend but whatcha gonna do..

In any sport teams or individuals that are considered dominate over a period of time tend to be viewed in two ways, either they are loved or hated. Everything they do usually comes under a microscope and the questionable deeds are downplayed by the lovers and focused on my the haters. Had it been the Cleveland Browns we likely would not have Spygate, PEDSgate, Snowplowgate, IRgate x2, Headsetgate, Tampergate, Tuckgate, Formationgate, Deflategate, Walkthroughgate etc in our lexicon.

That sounds about right. The latest ESPN pole has 73% of the country routing for the Falcons.........:D

That sounds like a conservative estimate.....perhaps 93% is more likely.

Your probably right on. I can see how people are sick of the same team being in roughly half the Super Bowls over the past 15 years.........I'm just not. I wonder what the tears of 93% of the football fans sounds like?

I saw a pie chart recently. There was a little sliver labeled, "Fans who want the Falcons to win". The rest of the chart was labeled, "Fans who want the Patriots to lose"

Bert,

You might be correct in your assessment. I believe the odds are in favor of New England by three points. My team isn't in the fight and it's probably for the best. I think Atlanta will offer a better run for the money than any other opponent could. It's sure fun to hate New England.

The tears of the 93% of NFL fans aren't nearly as loud as I expected.

I am not a betting man but.......I probably could have bought out the Lie Nielsen catalogue just betting opposite the team Rich wanted to win throughout the playoffs. Of course if I try that next year You (Rich) will probably pick 100% with GB winning the SB.

The parade will sure be a good time, always is, I just hope it isn't too cold this year.

TB12 is the GOAT, hands down.

Best QB and head coach ever indisputable at this point.

Hands down best Super Bowl i have ever seen in my lifetime and probably will remain as such.

As a New Englander this wil completely nullify any smack talk on the part of anyone talking crap about the Patriots moving forward. Now you just know they jealous.....

Yeah and 56 quarters this season good enough to get him to the super bowl for a seventh time.

I need not mention the fifth super bowl win again do i.

Being a great QB is not just about throwing the bowl. Not that he has a problem doing so. When he isnt throwning the ball well it usualy comes down to someone else not doing their job.

You really wanna argue that Payton Manning, Matt Ryan, Joe Montana, or any other number of great QB always throw the ball well.

Come on Herb Please......

And Fifth...

As soon as the Pats won the overtime toss, it was over. It took forever to get rolling but once they did, Atlanta's defense was gassed and the Pats were unstoppable.

When he isnt throwning the ball well it usualy comes down to someone else not doing their job.

Spot on. He made some bad throws (some were on purpose to avoid Atlanta's relentless pass rush) but the number of dropped, catchable passes early on was extremely frustrating and clearly a factor in the first 2 1/2 quarters.

There are endless theories regarding what happened, but I'm on board with the Pats' conditioning winning the day in the end. One advantage Atlanta was given pre-game, was their youth. But young players are used to playing 11-13 games in a college season. This was game 19 for both teams. Belichick preaches conditioning to deal with the long season, assuming you are lucky enough to advance. The Pats start the season expecting to advance. The veterans teach and coach the young players to follow the system.

Mr Bill did a great post game chat with Boomer at his announcer desk, mostly to honor Boomer who already announced his retirement, and he talked about how special this team was to him, partly because of the difficulties they all went through throughout the season, but also because of their willingness to adopt the system.

Individuality is a wonderful thing, but teamwork is a powerful force.

Well, the score sizes changed according to the score. For a time, the Falcon's score was #7 font and the Patriots #1 font. As the Patriots scored more points their font size increased.......and then, disaster.
