I need to know the name of the tool that you use as a wedge to drive out the chuck from a drill press. Some are made from brass or other soft metal. They work better than using the wrong item like a screwdriver. Thanks.

I believe you are thinking of a drill drift or drill drift key.

You must be asking about a wedge set... different sets available for different tapers.

You both offered good answers. The one I had in mind was the drill drift.

Bill's wedge set will work to separate the chuck from it's arbor, if that's what you've got. Some chucks have integral arbors, (made of a single metal piece), in which case you'll need the drift key to drive the arbor from the drill spindle. Saw a clip the other day of a machinist using a block of wood, tapped with a hammer against the top of the chuck, to knock the arbor free of the spindle. Make sure you have the table up close to the chuck to keep it from dropping and getting damaged.
