Folks, I signed up a little roofed entry project,

and now they want those saloon door, swing In and Out type hinges ..

I've never used them! Will those even work on an exterior double gate? I always use face mount hinges and a cane bolt.

How do you hold the gates closed with those? Anyone know a good hinge for this? 350541

They seem cumbersome to me, and having watched a lot of GUNSMOKE episodes with ever changing pairs ,they don't seem to last long. I would suggest one of those weight driven closers on a single gate

basic swing hinges should work, you'd have to find some that will accommodate the wood width of the gate frame.
Magnets can keep the doors in alignment when closed.

Hhmmm, you know, I can't envision how those mount to the post and gate, can anyone explain that to me? I'll call some of the Mfgs tomorrow.

I make my own self closing hinges. I take a square piece of oak drill a hole thought the center and then cut ti in half on a 45 I round over one part look at Cafe hinges to see what I mean

Joe, the hinges Kev suggested will work. They mount not much differently to conventional butt hinges. It doesn't matter how wide your frame/post is. They look funny in a picture because of the spring preloading. Piece of cake actually. I swapped out butt hinges for a set of these in a workshop door recently where the guys had to shoulder through carrying stuff. Cheers

Done it with inch and half redwood. I would suggest three hinges per side.

The bad thing about those hinges are for that size they are expensive.
