Hello, I am new to this forum and currently in the planning process of my next wood working project - making a replica of an old tall clock - the one located in the Oval Office of the White House.

The original is made of mahogany plus "crotch birch" and "satinwood veneers. But what is what, maybe some of you can help me identify what is what.

I assume that the sides of the case is regular mahogany, but the front - could that be some sort of burl mahogany? And the narrow parts under the columns are "crotch birch" and the small rectangular sections are "satinwood"...?

There is a splendid picture on this web page:

Thank you very much in advance, over and out from the Arctics.

Case looks to be mahogany and the main panels are mahogany crotch. The birch is likely the small panels and satinwood is likely the inlay.

It is a beautiful clock.
