Here are two very different cedar bowls made from some wood that Mark Cothren was kind enough to send. Both were turned rough and soaked in alky and allowed to dry although Mark tells me they were dry enough to turn without the alcohol soak.

The shorter and redder bowl is 8" in diameter and 2 3/4" tall. The "pinkish" bowl is 8" in diameter and 3 1/2" tall.

Thanks Mark for sending me wood with such pretty bowls inside... :D

Both are excellent, Mike. I'm particular to the first "just because", but wouldn't complain one iota if either appeared in my collection!

Both very nice ! I would have thought cedar would not turn very well but as usual I'm wrong.

Wow Mike, those are fantastic! What a great finish on them.

That wood was dry, but doesn't look like the alky soak hurt them any....:D

I bet you shop smells like Cedar now, eh?

Great bowls and thanks for the pictures!

Good lines on these bowls, and the lip sets off the pink one for me. I like cedar, and you seem to have excaped the problem of cracks, nice job Mike. What type of finish did you use to get such a pretty finish?

Glenn, just finely sanded to 1200 or so and then polished with non-abrasive pads followed by several applications of paste wax buffed with felt and soft cloth.
