Just watch a video on one of the turning catalog's web sites on how to remove worn out Velcro from a sanding mandrel. They cut it off with a skew. I've used a knife and razor knife, but if the rubber is still in good shape a little heat from a cigarette lighter will soften the adhesive and the Velcro will peel right off. It is better to pick it off though, because the sticky glue can be hot.

They might want to be careful with such videos, lest people figure out how easy the mandrels are to make!

You can buy a (big!) sheet of adhesive-backed velcro from Klingspor for $15 or so.

Ha - I sort of went crazy after Bob showed me how to make these (used 3-different types of foam):

I get hook and loop 2" in a roll @ Wally Mart or any sewing store for about $20. 15 feet long.

Its hard to beat the Velcro from the above site. It is tough, heat resistant and lasts a long time. The self stick adhesive is among the best.
