View Full Version : Anoter way to make a bottom for a vase.

I hope the pictures are better than my explanation. The key is to cut rabbit in the wedge stock before cutting the pieces. The pictures have text within and out of order show:

1) Stock shown with rabbit cut.

2) The waste cut to get correct angle for one side of good wedge and make the rabbit on inside of ring, not outside..

3) The good wedge being cut.
4) Two wedges and a waste a cut.
5) All the pieces and waste.
6) The ring ready for glue up.
The bottom could be either glued in or float. The second ring was designed to overlaps the bottom.
I cut the rabbit on the table saw, but I think the next time I will set up to use a router bit. Before installing the base I took a thin cut on the inside of the ring to get rid of the flats on the inside, since it was going to be covered it would not have been necessary.
