Wanted to do some more different things with turned plates. Here is a 10 inch diameter cherry plate ~1 inch thick that I turned with an oval top recess to accept a ceramic plaque. The first image on left is top of plate before adding a ceramic plaque. Opted for the circle of beads to transition the eye from round plate to oval plaque. Made the recess with my carving hand tools. Decided to mount the ceramic inserts in the recess using a couple of small hanger bolts with brass plated cap nuts to facilitate quick change out from one ceramic plaque to another. Bought a couple of different ceramic plaques to interchange occasionally as the mood suits us. Finished with three coats Minwax Antique Oil finish then buffed with Beall wood buff kit.
