Preparing to install an electronic countdown timer, Woods 59013.
(rated for 15amps for my application - 2 exhaust fans running at 3.5amps each )

Unlike the above picture, all the leads (14ga) appear to be aluminum.
The have supplied four wire nuts, so I assume they are good to go,
but I am hesitant to connect aluminum to my copper (12ga) using wire nuts.
An acquaintance had a house fire attributed to pigtailing copper to
aluminum (14ga to 14ga) with similar wire nuts.
His situation was reversed, Al house wiring using Cu pigtails to connect to a Cu device.
Is there an issue?

I doubt they are aluminum. Probably tinned copper and the lead gives it the bright shiny color. Try scratching the conductors with a knife to see if the coating comes off, leaving a copper color.

My experience has been similar to Ken's; the tips were tinned. Try snipping a tiny bit off the tip and see if there are multiple copper dots from the multi strand wire. Good luck. I understand the safety concern and you need to figure it out just to get some peace of mind. Best regards, patrick
