I've just been given nice wood from an old plum tree and I plan to rough turn it and give it a soak in DNA to help avoid cracking. I searched our archive but the recommended soak time varies from 2 hrs to 48 hrs or more.
Most of the roughed blanks will be between 6" & 12" and I'll make the average thickness about 3/4" or so.
Anyone know the optimum length of time I should soak the plum?
- thanks

I have no experience with plum, however I soak cherry for roughly 24 hours, and have near 100% success rate, assuming piece has no knots. I don't see how longer would hurt. Some folks will say it's not necessary to use it, but in my shop, cherry is near impossible to dry without cracks any other way. I have tried them all. Hope this helps.
