Posted a thread a couple of weeks ago asking for opinions on a Walker Turner 16" bandsaw on Craigslist. General consensus was that it was twice the saw that I could get new for 1/4 of the price. Took a while for the seller and I to get a time that worked for us both to meet, but today it all worked out. Real nice guy, and we chatted about woodworking for a while. Saw was in great shape except for maybe needing some new tires and the bearing on the lower guide probably needs replaced, but other than that, it's all intact. His neighbor managed to jack up the blade somehow so I couldn't run it, but runs smooth when powered on. Also kind of cool that this was apparently used by the KC Royals at some point as it had "Property of KC Royals" sticker on it. Should have a blade early next week so I can get it tuned up and put it through the paces. Need that time to recuperate anyways after moving this thing. This thing weights a TON! I bet it weights between 500-600 lbs. At least that is what my back thinks.

I remember your recent thread. I wondered what happened. Glad you got it - should be a heck of a machine!

GREAT FIND.

Going to keep it as is or add a new paint job?

I would be excited that someone took the time to write the blade length on the saw. That alone saves a lot of troubles.

You won't regret the purchase. This is a good bandsaw.

The table tilt mechanism is "quirky"....

Take a VERY hard, discerning look at it.The forces need to be well understood, and even "well'r" maintained/lubed.Forcing it will break something. You have been warned.

Take a look at the guide bearings, they have oil holes, drilled through mount post.

Edit to add,be especially careful NOT over tightening any connections where cast is involved.Look at them "wrong" and they'll snap like a potato chip. You have choices.....bed with epoxy(think gunstocks),refine the mating surfaces through grinding,or do as the factory and just not over tighten,as in don't even get close.

Great band saw and it looks to be in great shape. Now all you have to do is get a new blade, new tire, new bearing (all minor!) and keep your eyes open for the elusive cast iron belt cover.

What does it have for a motor?

Thanks everybody. Looking forward to getting a blade to give it a spin. I cleaned it up a little over the weekend and the bearing that I though was shot actually was fine and just really gummed up. Spinning freely now so that isn’t even an issue. Did a little scrubbing on the table top. Probably just get it up and running but may give her a paint job at some point. As far as the motor, I believe it’s only listed a ½ HP. The guy I bought it from had another bandsaw with a 1 ½ HP motor and said that the Walker Turner had more power. Just have to run it and see but upgrading the motor would be no big deal. Need to get a fence and would like to find an original, but after looking on ebay, they want what I paid for the saw for one, so I’ll probably just get a Kreg.
