I need to sand some wood down to 1/8". I need it smooth, and consistant.

Anyone know if it's possible to rent a drum sander?
Also, I'd like to rent a bandsaw stock feeder...but imagine that'll be even tougher to find...

You might have better luck renting time on someone's sander. Creekers in your area?? Perhaps a cabinet shop?

I'm wondering how WIDE this 1/8" thick material is? It could make a difference in the options available to you.

It'll never exceed 12", and if it did, I'd rip it down. Even 10" would be fine.

Hey, there is a place near racine called Kettle Morain hardwoods... you can have them run parts through a widebelt sander and I think they charge $1.25 a minute... a big table top will cost a couple bucks. the question is whether their wide-belt would go down to 1/8th inch.

Kettle Moraine Hardwoods has two locations in the Milwaukee area-- one is in Caledonia and the other is in Hartford. They have a 36" widebelt sander at each location that they run with an 80 grit belt. Cost is $1.50/minute with a $5 minimum charge. Do a google search to find their website for more information.

Aside from being a satisfied customer of theirs, I have no affiliation.

I'm not exactly sure what Northern Illinois is, but Owl Hardwoods in Lombard offers this service.
