R.I.P. to the 29 souls who lost their lives 41 years ago today on Lake Superior,
seems like only yesterday.

Many people would have never heard of the wreck if it wasn't for Gordon Lightfoot (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vST6hVRj2A).

That's kind of a haunting song too.

The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, Michigan is well worth visiting if you are interested in the Edmund Fitzgerald. They have recovered the actual ship's bell, among many other things, that are on display. The museum has a wealth of information about this and many other shipwrecks on Lake Superior.

True, although anyone who lives in the Great Lakes area is very aware of this event,
that day and the storms we had during that period. Lake Superior is a amazing bit of
nature although in November during a storm is a alarmingly scary place to be. The first time
I saw this body of water in November on a overcast day, It left me in awe, so powerful
and overwhelming. I can't imagine the amount of courage it required to go out there in stormy
weather.

Yes, sure would like to hear a Stevie Nicks cover of it.

I worked for the parent company of Columbia Steamship who owned the Fitzgerald. One of our Vice-President's sons was a member of the crew of the Fitzgerald. The song always brings chills to me when I hear it. That was their only 1000 ft ore boat and they never built another one.

My wife's grandfather was a captan on that ship, but he wasn't on the ship when it went down.
